Head Advisory issued for Friday; Excessive heat will continue into the weekend
A combination of very warm temperatures and high humidity will result in dangerous heat index values on Friday and Saturday, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
A Heat Advisory has been issued from Friday at 11 a.m. until Saturday at 7 p.m. The intense heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
Minimum heat indices of 100 degrees are expected through Saturday, with a heat index of up to 105 forecasted for Friday on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. Temperatures will be in the mid-to-high 80s through Saturday.
