Heat Wave Will Continue Through the Weekend; Cooler Temps Expected Next Week
Dangerous heat and humidity will continue through the weekend, with heat indexes of 105-110 degrees on Friday afternoon, and 105-115 degrees on Saturday, per the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.
The high heat indexes for the next several days are due to a combination of temperatures in the 90s and high humidity. Residents and visitors in the Outer Banks are urged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and spend time in air conditioning whenever possible.
A cold front is expected to approach the area from the north and provide some relief beginning early next week, with cooler air and increased chances for rainfall.
