High Risk of Rip Currents Continues on Monday for the Outer Banks
A high risk of rip currents continues on Monday for all of the Outer Banks, per a Monday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
A combination of elevated seas and onshore winds will produce dangerous surf conditions today throughout the Outer Banks with surf heights of 3-6 feet. The most likely time for rip currents is at high tide, which is around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, however rip currents can form at any time, and along any shoreline. Beachgoers are advised to avoid swimming in the ocean as long as the high rip current risk is in effect.
Showers will also be possible on Monday with total rainfall amounts ranging from .10 inches for interior N.C. areas to more than .6 inches on Hatteras and Ocracoke islands through Tuesday.
