High Risk of Rip Currents Forecast for Monday as Temperatures Drop

A high risk of rip currents is in effect for the Outer Banks from Topsail Beach to Duck, per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.

A high rip current risk means that “wind and/or wave conditions support dangerous rip currents that could be life-threatening to anyone entering the surf.” The most likely timeframe for the formation of dangerous rip currents is several hours on either side of low tide, which will occur at around 2 p.m. on Monday.

A cold front is also expected to move off of the North Carolina coast on Monday night, with temperatures falling to the mid-60s along the Outer Banks, and to the low-60s in inland regions of Eastern North Carolina.
