High risk of rip currents forecast for Thursday as wet weather continues
A high risk of rip currents is expected for the Outer Banks beaches north of Cape Lookout, per a Thursday morning update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
Scattered to numerous showers and a few thunderstorms with heavy downpours are also expected again today, due to an area of low pressure just off the N.C. coast.
A high risk of rip currents means that life-threatening rip currents are likely, and the surf zone is dangerous for all levels of swimmers.
