Hyde County Health Dept. provides updates on its 31 active COVID-19 cases and testing services
As of today, Hyde County is reporting a total COVID-19 case count of 114. Of this total, 31 are active cases, 80 have recovered, and three have passed away since the pandemic began.
Per Hyde County, the Health Department tests anyone who suspects they are sick with COVID-19, or who has been in contact with someone who has the virus, but they also test those who request testing without symptoms. There are no out of pocket fees to individuals, but the Hyde County Health Department does ask that anyone who has insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare to bring their card with them for testing. People who need to be tested are also asked to call for an appointment as the Health Dept. does not see walk-in clients.
To date, 34.5% of cases are people in the 25-49 age group; 59% are female; 73% are white; and 69% have NOT been hospitalized. People with comorbidities make up 31% of cases, which is largely represented by cardiovascular disease at 24%.
Of the 114 cases, 51 have lived in a congregate living setting. August was the largest testing month to date, with 467 individuals obtaining a test at one of the Hyde County facilities, which includes the Health Department, Engelhard Medical Center, Ocracoke Medical Center, plus two drive-up events: one on the mainland, and one on Ocracoke.
“As always, the Hyde County Health Department remains available to the public to answer questions and provide education,” stated the update. “We can be reached at 926-4399 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. For 24/7 on-call services, dial 1-866-462-3821, the Coronavirus Hotline.”
