Lane Closures on New Bridge May Occur as Finishing Touches are Made
Although the new Bonner Bridge is open to traffic, there is still a little work to be done before crews can begin the demolition of the old Bonner Bridge structure – a project which is slated to be completed by the end of 2019 or early 2020.
Over the next few months, crews will be making these finishing touches, which includes transferring utility lines from the old Bonner Bridge to the new one, and conducting a final clean-up of the new bridge, which will require occasional lane closures.
Daytime lane closures may occur Monday through Friday throughout the spring. One lane will remain open during these closures, however, motorists should allow for extra travel time as needed.
NCDOT urges motorists in the area to stay alert, obey posted speed limits, and watch for signs regarding possible lane closures or construction information.
