Low pressure system could bring coastal flooding, strong winds Sunday and Monday
A strong low pressure system is forecast to impact the Outer Banks Sunday into Monday, bringing the potential for localized flooding, gusty winds, dangerous marine conditions, and coastal impacts, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
Minor coastal flooding possible is possible along the Outer Banks, both on the soundside and oceanside, and heavy rains of 2-3 inches could lead to localized flooding in areas with poor drainage.
Strong gusty winds are forecast from Sunday through Monday, and dangerous marine conditions are expected for all regional waters. Mariners should consider altering weekend plans to avoid hazardous conditions.
While the timing of the low pressure system is coming into better focus, the strength and track of the system are still evolving, and as a result, the wind speeds and potential for coastal flooding remain uncertain as of Thursday afternoon. More information will be available in the next several days.
