Memorial Held for Sarah Quigley, Victim of October’s Buxton Fire

A memorial was held for Sarah Elizabeth Quigley along the Hatteras village waterfront on Thursday evening to pay tribute to the former charter boat captain who lost her life in a devastating fire in Buxton in October, 2020.

The fire happened in the Cottages at the Cape neighborhood on October 23, and claimed the lives of four local residents. The wife of a Coast Guard member, Trina Ramsey, and the couple’s daughters Zoey, 7, and Emma, 4, were killed in the fire, as well as Sarah, who was 34.

Family members, friends, loved ones, charter boat colleagues, and U.S. Coast Guard personnel were on the docks of Teach’s Lair Marina on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. to pay tribute to the beloved local captain, who moved to the Outer Banks to fulfill her lifelong dream of being near the ocean. A wreath was shuttled out into the open waters by the local vessel, Rabid Tuna, out of Hatteras, and was laid in her honor. A number of vessels departed the Hatteras village docks to escort the Rabid Tuna and also pay tribute, including local charter boats and a U.S. Coast Guard vessel.

Sarah is survived by her husband, Timothy; her parents, Elzie and Lauri Sisney and Skip Parcell; her siblings, Cameron, Emily, Jenny, and John; her children, Kathleen, Rory, Stephanie, Erin, Megan, Caitlin; her grandchildren, Caleb, Rylynn, Maverick, Aiden, and Destiny; as well as too many extended family and friends to mention. “If you were blessed enough to meet her, you loved her,” reads her obituary.

A GoFundMe page has been established to raise money for her children, in lieu of flowers, and donations are still being accepted to help her family.
