Milton may produce coastal flooding, ocean overwash Thursday through Saturday
Hurricane Milton is forecast to pass well south of Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands later this week, but dangerous rip currents, escalated beach erosion, and ocean overwash are possible along the Outer Banks, particularly Thursday through Saturday.
Dangerous rip currents and rough surf are expected to continue into the weekend. A high risk of rip currents remains in effect for Wednesday, October 9.
Beach erosion and ocean overwash may affect vulnerable areas along the Outer Banks, and specifically areas where overwash has been a repeated issue, (such as northern Ocracoke Island, northern Buxton, Rodanthe, and Pea Island.)
Minor coastal flooding is also possible for vulnerable areas susceptible to flooding with northeast winds, Thursday through Saturday.
