N.C. Highway 12 Reopens as of 9:45 p.m. Saturday Night
After a temporary closure that coincided with Saturday evening’s high tide, N.C. Highway 12 reopened from Rodanthe to Oregon Inlet at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Saturday night.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) stated in a Saturday night update that there is still sand and water on the roadway in several places between Oregon Inlet and Hatteras Village. Motorists are advised to use caution and slow down, as saltwater can cause damage to vehicles.
Ocean overwash on N.C. Highway 12 throughout Hatteras Island is likely over the next several high tide cycles as Subtropical Storm Melissa moves away from the East Coast.
