Ocracoke Passenger Ferry will resume operations on Saturday, August 5
After being out of service for several days due to maintenance, the Ocracoke Express Passenger Ferry will resume operations on Saturday, August 5, per an update from the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The passenger ferry’s regular daily schedule is as follows:
- From Hatteras: 9:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
- From Ocracoke: 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The passenger ferry was recently suspended from August 1 through August 4, and was also unexpectedly suspended earlier in the summer, from July 6 through July 18, due to mechanical issues. Though originally scheduled to run through July 31, the season was extended through Labor Day, per a recent announcement.
The passenger ferry takes people on a 70-minute trip between Hatteras and Silver Lake Harbor in Ocracoke Village. A free tram operated by Hyde County is available to carry people around the village to shops, restaurants, accommodations, and attractions.
Reservations are available at www.ncferry.org.
That ferry has been a hot mess this year. Charge for it and put that money into the cost of operating it.
