ORV Routes in front of villages reopen Tuesday, October 15
Seasonal ORV access for beaches in front of the villages of Hatteras Island has reopened for the off-season, starting on Tuesday, October 15.
These routes, which run parallel to the towns of Hatteras, Frisco, Avon, and the Tri-villages, open to ORVs annually in the winter months when the visitor population is low, and close from April 15 until mid-October.
The majority of ORV ramps on Hatteras and Bodie islands have opened for night driving as well over the past month, as sea turtle nesting activity winds down for the 2019 season. A complete list of ramps open to ORV access can be found on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s website at https://www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/conditions.htm.
Note that all routes on Ocracoke Island continue to remain closed while National Park Service staff continue to assess damages caused by Hurricane Dorian.
