Red Cross Blood Drive on Hatteras Island Garners 48 Donors
A Red Cross blood drive on Hatteras Island resulted in a full schedule and every time slot filled, with a total of 48 participants donating blood during the day-long endeavor.
The blood drive was held on Monday, May 4, in Buxton at the Inn on Pamlico Sound’s waterfront restaurant, Café Pamlico, and the restaurant was transformed into a makeshift donor site, with three beds / stations, and all necessary medical equipment supplied by the Red Cross.
The Inn on Pamlico Sound approached the Red Cross several weeks ago and asked if the Buxton business could host the upcoming drive. “Turning ourselves into a Red Cross blood donation center is simply consistent with using our facility and organization for the betterment of our community,” said owner Steve Nelson “Given the national blood donation shortage, it was kind of a no-brainer way to use our place during the shutdown.”
Additional drives will be planned throughout the Outer Banks in the weeks to come. For more information on scheduled drives in the OBX area, and to sign up to donate, see https://www.redcrossblood.org/.
