Risk of excessive rainfall forecast for OBX, as heavy rains continue through Monday
A slight risk of excessive rainfall is forecast for the Outer Banks as heavy rains from the weekend continue for the next several days, per a Monday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
1-2 inches of rain are likely along the coast on Monday, with locally higher amounts possible, and there is a slight risk of minor temporary flooding of low-lying areas, given the rainfall over the past few days.
While some breaks in the precipitation is possible on late Monday evening, widespread showers and a few thunderstorms are likely to refire overnight, with heavy downpours possible, as a plume of deep moisture continues along the N.C. coast.
6-8 inches of rain is possible for the Outer Banks through Wednesday, and the N.C. coastal region will finally begin to dry out by Friday and the weekend, with a return to warm and humid conditions.
