RWS Civic Association reviews accomplishments and eyes new events for next year at annual meeting
Association members and attendees at Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association Annual Meeting enjoyed a year in review of the Civic Associations’ accomplishments of the past year and the goals for the upcoming year. Over 30 attendees enjoyed the pre-meeting social & meeting held at the Rodanthe Community Center.
Accomplishments of the past year included:
- Held the first annual outdoor Christmas tree lighting and a visit by Santa. The event was attended by over 100 revelers and volunteers.
- Organized the Inaugural Rodanthe Run on April 9th, 2022. This was a 5 miler/5K walk /run over the new Rodanthe (Jug Handle) Bridge). The event attracted over 550 participants, volunteers, sponsors and spectators. The fundraising event generated over $10K for the Association.
- Awarded 7 scholarships for the upcoming year to Tri-Village students.
- Installed a number of Little Libraries in the Tri-Villages. There are now a total of nine little libraries Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo, two dedicated to children’s books.
With the funds generated, the Association not only supported the above, but was also responsible for having the nearly 5 miles of pathways mowed and edged so that all locals and visitors had clear access to enjoy strolling, running, bicycling from Mirlo Beach down to the Salvo Day Beach.
Additionally, the Association published the second annual Tri-Villages Business Map, highlighting the local business support of our Villages. John Havel, Graphic Designer and Hatteras Lighthouse researcher, was recognized for his many contributions to the Association.
Goals for the upcoming year will be to add new events for both locals and visitors to enjoy all year round.
