Strong to severe thunderstorms possible on Tuesday
Strong to severe thunderstorms ahead of a cold front are possible throughout the day on Tuesday, and particularly along the southern Outer Banks, per a Tuesday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
Thunderstorms are possible throughout the day, but the main threat for severe weather is between noon and 8 p.m. The storms have the potential to produce damaging wind gusts and hail, especially in the afternoon and evening, and flooding is also possible in low-lying areas. The threat of severe storms is expected to subside by Wednesday.
