Severe weather and excessive heat possible on Friday
Severe weather is possible for the Outer Banks on Friday afternoon and evening, while excessive heat will impact coastal North Carolina throughout the day, per an update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
A dangerous combination of heat and humidity is forecast across eastern North Carolina on Friday, with heat index values in the mid-90s for the Outer Banks.
In addition, widely scattered thunderstorms may develop this evening, with damaging wind gusts, lightning, and the potential for large hail. It should be noted that confidence in thunderstorms developing this evening is low to moderate, but if thunderstorms develop, they could become severe. The most likely time for severe storms along the Outer Banks is 6:00 p.m. Friday to 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.
