Severe weather possible Monday; Damaging wind gusts, hail, and lightning are main threats
Severe weather is possible for Monday afternoon and evening, which includes damaging wind gusts, hail, and frequent lightning, per a Monday morning update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
The best chance for severe weather along the Outer Banks will be late afternoon until the early evening, from roughly 5:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.
There is also a high risk of rip currents in effect throughout the Outer Banks, as well as a Small Craft Advisory until 5:00 p.m. due to wind gusts up to 30 knots and rough waters.
The public is advised to have multiple ways to receive warnings in case of severe weather, and can stay informed by signing by for the new OBXAlerts system from Dare County, which provides both emergency and routine alerts for the Outer Banks.
