Severe Weather Possible Monday Night through Tuesday Morning
Though Monday brought a break in the weather after several consecutive days of rain, severe weather including thunderstorms, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes is possible overnight, per a Monday update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move over the coastal N.C. area late Monday evening through Tuesday morning. Travelers should also note that while N.C. Highway 12 remains passable throughout, the recent heavy rains have led to several areas of deep, standing water, and should drive with caution.
The public is advised to have multiple ways to receive warnings in case of isolated tornadoes, and can stay informed by signing by for the new OBXAlerts system from Dare County, which provides both emergency and routine alerts for the Outer Banks.
Folks can sign up for OBXAlerts via this link, and can select the alerts and notifications they wish to receive. To maintain uninterrupted service, all current users of OBXAlerts must create a new profile by February 28, 2021.
