Severe weather possible on Friday
A cold front will move through the Outer Banks area on Friday, potentially bringing an end to the recent week-long wave of dry weather, per a Thursday afternoon update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands starting on Friday afternoon, with a few storms that could become strong or marginally severe with gusty winds. A Small Craft Advisory is currently in effect for the Pamlico Sound until Friday, due to southwest winds of 15 to 20 knots, (with gusts up to 25 knots), and choppy waters.
