Severe weather possible on Sunday, July 9

Severe thunderstorms will be possible Sunday afternoon and Sunday night for all of eastern North Carolina per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.

Damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph are the main threat and high winds are most likely from 5:00 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Sunday for the Outer Banks. Frequent lightning and heavy rains are also forecast, and localized flooding of low-lying areas is possible due to downpours.
