Severe weather possible on Wednesday, August 9

Severe thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night for all of eastern North Carolina per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.

Damaging wind gusts are the main threat, although large hail and frequent lightning are also possible. A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect for the Pamlico Sound starting at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday due to southwest winds of 20-25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots, and rough waters expected. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.
