Tropical Storm Watch in Effect for Dare County
Although limited impacts are expected, everyone is encouraged to monitor weather forecasts as conditions may change.
With Tropical Storm Claudette expected to move over eastern North Carolina Sunday evening into Monday morning, a tropical storm watch is in effect for Dare County. This indicates that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.
The greatest threats are anticipated to be heavy rain with the potential for flash flooding, isolated tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, and minor coastal flooding. The threat of rip currents will be heightened and beachgoers are advised to heed all surf zone advisories.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor updated weather forecasts as there remains uncertainty with the exact track and strength of the system. Updated information is available from the National Hurricane Center and our local National Weather Service office.
