U.S. Coast Guard Assists Disabled Vessel off of Cape Hatteras
On Friday, June 12, crew members from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet responded to a vessel approximately six nautical miles off the Diamond Shoals abandoned lighthouse that had lost their engines, propulsion, and was drifting further offshore.
The crew made their way out Hatteras Inlet, found the vessel, and proceeded to place them in a stern tow via Motor Lifeboat (MLB) 47308. However, due to shoaling, it was decided not to tow them through Hatteras Inlet, and instead head north to Oregon Inlet.
The tow was then transferred to U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet’s MLB 47291, and taken to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. No injuries were reported during the incident.
