U.S. News and World Report ranks Outer Banks 10th best summer vacation destination in the country
Another major publication has rated the Outer Banks as one of the best places in the United States for a summer vacation.
U.S. News and World Report published its 21 Best Summer Vacations in the USA for 2023 list last week, and has placed our destination as the number 10 best in the country.
Here’s what they had to say about us:
A quintessential family vacation spot, the Outer Banks fills to the brim in summer with beachgoers looking to relax. Activities for kids and teens abound in this North Carolina destination, including fishing, windsurfing, boogie boarding and kiting adventures like kiteboarding, hang gliding and classic kite flying. Meanwhile, travelers interested in U.S. history appreciate the Outer Banks’ significance as the Wright Brothers’ first flight site and where Roanoke Island’s colonists mysteriously disappeared. What’s more, there are numerous lighthouses to discover and the beaches are wide and clean.
Leading this year’s U.S. News rankings is Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park; Grand Canyon National Park; San Diego; Grand Teton National Park; San Francisco; Bar Harbor; the Adriondack Mountains; and Seattle.
Following the Outer Banks is Hilton Head at number 11; Cannon Beach, Oregon (where Goonies was filmed); Zion National Park; Cape May, New Jersey; Great Smoky National Park; Mount Rainier National Park; Chicago; Fairbanks, Alaska; Portland, Maine; Boston; and Cape Cod.
I can’t think of anything worse. I’m just a touron but have been touroning since the mid-90s. After growing up in upstate NY having my south Jersey grandparents take me to the “Jersey shore” the OBX was such a relief. But by the mid-2000s it had just started to become the Jersey shore, and it’s just continued to go downhill. This news just drives it deeper into Jersey shore territory. In other words into hell. I’ve known for a long time that I need to find a new spot. This just seals it. I guess the article is celebratory. But there’s nothing to celebrate. Exactly the opposite.
Feel free to never come back.
The top rated lists are just clickbait at the least and sinister marketing schemes pushed by the destinations listed at the worse. Take out the freebie subscriptions they give to any business with a lobby and the subscription rate would be near zero. Just like the college rankings, Dr. Beach, Best Doctors, etc…it is all made up. The one thing I do know is that you do not want your hometown or favorite vacation spot to be on any list that might get more people to visit.
