Water line break reported in Avon; Customers asked to conserve water
The Dare County Water Department is requesting that all water users in Avon reduce their consumption until further notice in an effort to sustain a pressurized water system, due to a water main break that occurred near Harbor Road in Avon Village at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13.
Repair crews from the Dare County Water Department have isolated the issue and are actively making repairs to the water main.
Currently, only Dare County water users located off of Harbor Road in Avon, as indicated by the yellow highlighted area on the map below, are without water service. All water users in Avon may experience lower water pressure than normal.
Repairs are expected to take a minimum of four hours to complete, with the repairs currently expected to be completed at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, although water service may be restored sooner.
Once service has been fully restored, customers in the affected service area in Avon that are OBXAlerts subscribers will be notified via their preferred notification method (email, text message, or phone call).
At this time, there is no boil water advisory in effect, and water remains safe for consumption; however, customers will be notified should conditions change, and any necessary advisories will be communicated.
The Dare County Water Department appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as repair crews work to address the issue and restore full service as quickly as possible. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
