Wright Brothers National Memorial closed on July 13 to complete pavement preservation project
Wright Brothers National Memorial (Memorial) will be closed on Monday, July 13th to complete a pavement preservation project. If weather precludes work on the 13th, the park will be closed on July 14th.
During the one day closure, the contractor, Bryant’s Land & Development Industries, Inc. (Burnsville, NC), will apply a fog seal, which is a liquid asphalt emulsion that will seal the chips (small gravel) to the road surface and complete the chip seal pavement preservation project.
The chip seal pavement preservation project at the Memorial is part of the National Park Service’s partnership with the Federal Highways Administration that will preserve approximately 43 miles of paved roads and parking areas at the Memorial, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. The $6.9 million project began in April 2019.
