UPDATE: House fire in Avon extinguished; No injuries reported
6:30 P.M. UPDATE
A house fire on Starboard Drive in Avon was extinguished as of approximately 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, although volunteer firefighters remained at the scene as of 6:30 p.m. to check for hot spots, and to ensure that the fire was completely out.
The fire was reported at 5:04 p.m. on Wednesday, and was responded to by the Avon, Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as Dare County EMS, Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Cape Hatteras Electric Coop, and the State Highway Patrol.
Per Steven Kovacs, Dare County Fire Marshal, there were vacation rental guests staying at the house in the soundside Kinnakeet Shores area, but only one was home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries reported, although several firefighters were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The Island Free Press will post updates as soon as they are available.
