DOT schedules public meetings for long-term solutions at Pea Island Inlet
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will hold a series of public meetings in March to discuss the long-term solution for the section of Highway 12 on Pea Island breached by Hurricane Irene in 2011.
NCDOT has recently released a document called an Environmental Assessment, which identifies the preferred alternative as the permanent bridge within the existing easement. It would be built where the temporary bridge on Highway 12 now stands.
NCDOT will host three informal public meetings to discuss the project at several locations along the Outer Banks:
Monday, March 11, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
Dare County Administration Building, Room 168
954 Marshall Collins Drive, Manteo
Tuesday, March 12, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Center
23186 Myrna Peters Road, Rodanthe
Wednesday, March 13, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
Ocracoke Community Center
1009 Irvin Garrish Highway, Ocracoke
Citizens can drop in at any time during the scheduled timeframes to look at maps and ask NCDOT staff questions about the project. The public is urged to share their thoughts, ideas and suggestions. Written comments are encouraged and will be accepted through March 28.
For those who cannot attend in person, NCDOT will field questions and comments via the N.C. 12 Facebook page (www.facebook.com/NCDOT) and N.C. 12 Twitter account (https://twitter.com/ncdot_nc12) during the hours of the Manteo and Rodanthe meetings.
