RALEIGH — Lorenzo Jackson “Jack”Allen, 84, passed away at Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head on Jan. 25,2016 after a very brief illness. Jack had resided at the Spring Arborassisted living facility in Kill Devil Hills since October of 2012.
Jack was predeceased by parents, Lafayette David Allen and MamieMeadows Allen; his wife, Melba Jean Joyner Allen; brothers: Carlyle E.Allen, L. D. Allen Jr., Louis M. Allen, and Adrian V. Allen; sister,Katherene Allen Patterson, and niece, Olivia Garrett Allen. He issurvived by brother, Billy T. Allen; stepson, Trent Liter; and nephews:Scott Allen, Kent Allen, Brad Allen, Greg Allen, Preston Massey Jr.,Allen Massey, and a niece, Mary Allen Brown.
Jack graduated from Millbrook High School in Raleigh in 1950. As ayoung man, he served on the U.S. Navy carrier ship Wasp. When hereturned to his home in Raleigh, he worked in the real estate business.Having grown up on a family farm, he later worked for the U.S. and N.C.Agriculture Departments, collecting crop data in eastern NorthCarolina. Jack was known by family, friends, and associates as a kindand generous man with a light heart and good sense of humor thattouched many lives. He always brought a smile to those around him andwill be missed by all that knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, at L.Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale,NC 27545. The family will visit immediately following the service.
