BUXTON — Retta Williams Quidley, 94, passed away at her daughter’shome in Buxton on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 at 6:15 p.m. with her family byher side. A native of Avon, she was born on June 21, 1921 to the lateCharles Thomas Williams II and Iantha O’Neal Williams. From 1946 to1966, Retta resided at her home in Buxton raising her children. Afterbeing widowed in 1952, she remained in Buxton, attending Buxton UnitedMethodist Church and teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir.She was faithful to her Lord and the church. In 1966, she sold her homein Buxton and built a new home in Avon. There she returned to herfamily and church and began working as a clerk for the United StatesPostal Service, retiring after 22 years. She was a Sunday Schoolteacher and the Sunday School superintendent at St. Johns UnitedMethodist Church in Avon. She will be missed greatly, Gods blessingsare hers.
Retta is survived by a daughter, Karen Vernesoni, and husband, Phil; ason, Maurice L. Quidley Sr. and wife, Sandra; grandchildren, PhillipVernesoni, Jonathan Vernesoni, Benjamin Quidley, Veronica Dent,Nathaniel Quidley and Jeremy Quidley; great-grandchildren, Gracie andJonathan II Vernesoni, Alex and Ashlyne Quidley, Abigail and SamuelDent, Brock and Brantley Quidley and Ella and Sienna Quidley; andgreat-great-grandson, Evan Quidley. She is also survived by twosisters, Vera W. Meekins and Gloria W. O’Neal.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, JohnDavid Quidley; son, John D. Quidley Jr.; grandson, Maurice L. QuidleyJr.; and five siblings, Cameran Williams, Velma W. Barnette, CharlesWilliams III, Beatrice W. Hooper and Gerald D. Williams.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. atSt. Johns United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Wolf officiating.Burial will take place at the Quidley family cemetery in Buxton. Thefamily will receive friends and relatives Wednesday evening from 6until 8 p.m. at the church.
