Law enforcement authorities in Ohio are still searching for Nathan Summerfield, 27, of Ashland, Ohio, who has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, also of Ashland.
Jackenheimer’s body was found in the Village at Salt Creek subdivision in Frisco on July 14.
Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie said that an autopsy showed she died of strangulation and stab wounds.
Today’s media release from the Sheriff’s Office said that Summerfield is believed to be in Ohio.
The Ohio office of the U.S. Marshal’s Service is heading up the search for Summerfield. The marshals are being assisted by the Ashland County, Ohio, Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators from the Dare County have been to the Ashland area to conduct interviews, collect evidence, and meet with Ashland County investigators to begin preparation for a trial here.
“The cooperation from Ohio authorities has been outstanding,” said chief deputy Steve Hoggard in today’s release.
Jackenheimer and her two children and Summerfield were staying at a rental house in Salvo during the July 4 holiday week. According to authorities, she was last heard from on July 3 in a telephone conversation with a friend.
Summerfield returned to Ohio on July 8, dropped the children off with their grandparents, and then disappeared.
Summerfield was last seen in the Ashland area operating a 2009 gray four-door Honda Civic with an Ohio license plate, FMV7540.
A reward is also being offered for information leading to Summerfield’s arrest. The US Marshal’s tip line is 1-866-4-WANTED.
