COMO,N.C. — Arlene Marie James Richard of Como, NC went to be with the LordSaturday, September 20, 2014 at the age of 82 years, eight months, and22 days. Miss Arlene was born Jan. 29, 1932 to the late William“Jack” and Lenore Kaltenhauser James in St. Paul, Minn. Athleticand outgoing, she graduated from Wilson High School in 1949. OnAug. 15, 1953 she married John Albert Richard. Together they made18 moves in 22 years and raised four children. John and Arleneretired to Frisco on Hatteras Island and enjoyed fishing and walkingthe beaches. Widowed in 1992 after 39 years of marriage,Arlene remained on the Outer Banks for several years. Shetraveled to South America and spent several summers exploring Alaskabefore relocating to Como. In later years, she continued to enjoynature by enjoying the flowers and hummingbirds in her own yard. Remembered for her sense of humor, she will be remembered and missed bythose whose lives she touched.
She is survived by two sisters,Lavonne Knight and Donna Guptil; three children, Michael James Richardand wife Milicent Vaughen of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Michelle Richard ofComo, Thomas John Richard and wife Kimberly Grubb of Bradenton, Fla.;four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is precededin death by two sisters, a brother, and her son, James AlbertRichard.
A funeral service will be Saturday,Sept. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Severn Mennonite Church with Pastor DaleMiller officiating. The family will receive friends at the churchfrom 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. The body will becremated and buried in the Little Grove United Methodist ChurchCemetery in Frisco. In lieu of flowers, the family requestsdonations to a charity be sent to them at 1130 Boones Bridge Road,Como, NC 27818.
