Dare County expands transportation services on Hatteras Island
The Dare County Transportation System recently expanded services for Dare County residents on Hatteras Island. Transportation services amongst locations on Hatteras Island are now available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a fare rate of $3 each way.
Previously, transportation services on Hatteras Island were only available for trips north of Oregon Inlet. Trips from Hatteras Island to locations north of Oregon Inlet are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a fare rate of $3 each way. Appointments are required for all transportation services.
“Dare County is excited to offer local residents additional transportation opportunities on Hatteras Island. With the additional grant funding, we have the ability to provide much-needed assistance to local residents who in some cases may have no other alternative,” remarked Don Cabana, director of the Dare County Transportation System.
The grant funding also allowed for the addition of a part-time driver stationed at the Frisco Health Department Office.
In order to receive transportation services, passengers are requested to complete the “New Rider Information Form” available at www.darenc.com. Once the form has been completed and returned to the transportation office, trips may be scheduled by calling 252-475-5640 or 252-475-5765 Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Transportation is not provided on weekends or on select observed Dare County holidays.
