SALVO– Ann Courtney Perkins Privett, 68, passed away peacefully Thursday,March 20, 2014 in Hickory, N.C. Born in Portsmouth, Va., she was thedaughter of the late Charles Bertram and Evelyn Shackleford Perkins andwas the widow of Russell Lee Privett Sr. She was a formerowner/operator of The Fishin’ Hole, a former public school teacher inVirginia, a graduate of East Carolina University, and a member ofClarks Bethel United Methodist Church and Bethlehem BaptistChurch. She was also an active member of The Rebekahs, UnitedMethodist women’s organization, SALT of Bethlehem Baptist Church, andover the years various other community and charity organizations.
Mrs.Privett is survived by a daughter, LeeAnn Privett and significant otherGary Coonse of Taylorsville, N.C.; a son, Russell Privett Jr. andfianc�e, Anne Sutton, of Durham, N.C.; and two brothers, Robert Perkinsand wife Nancy of Portsmouth, Va., and Glenn Perkins and wife Judy ofThe Villages, Fla. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews,cousins, and other family members, whom she loved dearly, as well asher dog, Kandy, and many granddogs. Besides her parents andhusband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Perkins.
Mrs.Privett loved the beach, working in the Fishin’ Hole, teachingindividuals how to fish, and playing the piano. Her hobbiesincluded repairing reels, wrapping rods, gardening, and canning. She loved oysters (especially when someone else shucked them!) andeating at Top Dog and Nino’s Pizza.
A funeral servicewill be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at Clarks Bethel UnitedMethodist Church by the Rev. Jim Bliss. Burial will be at 4 p.m. atGreenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, Va. The family will receivefriends and relatives at the church on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m.
