HATTERAS– Captain Charles L. Brown sailed his final journey on Friday, March14, 2014. He was born on April 17, 1945 in Morehead City,N.C. He will join his father, Roy Shavender Brown, and mother,Hilda Wood Brown.
He is survived by his family, of which hewas most proud — his wife, Diane Waldrep Brown; his only son,Christopher Heath Brown and daughter-in-law, Jessica Brown, of Jupiter,Fla., and his two daughters, Annie Laura Brown and Savannah CatherineBrown of Hatteras.
He attended Cape Hatteras School andcontinued on to UNC Chapel Hill, before serving his country in theVietnam War with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He was adevoted captain of the sea, starting his first charter job at the ageof 10 and receiving his captain’s license at age 19.
A MemorialService will be held in his honor on Wednesday, March 19,2014 at 5:00 pm at theHatteras United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Davenport officiatingand Rev. Dwight Burrus assisting. A reception will follow at theHatteras Community Center. Flowers will be accepted or donationsmay be made to the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 442,Hatteras, NC 27943.
