CHESAPEAKE — Joseph Edward Jennette, Jr., 82, died Saturday, July 23,2011 at his residence. Born in Babylon, N.Y., he was the son of thelate Joseph Edward and Ruby Woodal Jennette. He was a graduate of CapeHatteras High School, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard having retiredas a Chief Boatswain Mate, and was a retired tug boat captain of 27years with Norshipco.
Mr. Jennette is survived by his wife, Charlotte June Meekins Jennetteof the residence; four daughters, Charlotte Dixon and husband, John“Skip” of Manteo; Ruby Weston and husband, “Hot Rod,” ofChesapeake, Va., Ramona Griffin of Manteo, and Sandy Comey and husband,David, of Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Alice McCreevy and JosieFarrow, both of Buxton; two brothers, Steve and Dale Jennette, both ofBuxton; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Dixon, Jed Dixon and wife, Amy,T.J. Leary, Lindsay Leary, Brandon Griffin and wife, Jamie, ColbyGriffin, Justin Comey, and Ashlin Comey; and four great grandchildren,Cal and June Dixon and Madison and Mason Griffin. He was also precededin death by a great-granddaughter, Faith Griffin.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at theLighthouse Assembly of God with the Rev. Jonathan Bennett officiating.Burial will be in the Jennette Family Cemetery. The family will receivefriends and relatives at Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo on Tuesday from6:30 to 8 p.m.
