A raid yesterday, Feb. 3, led law enforcement officers to about 150 marijuana plants in Waves and another 150 in Southern Shores.
According to a release from The Dare County Sheriff’s office, county deputies, assisted by North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, found 150 marijuana plants and other products related to a large pot-growing operation while serving a warrant yesterday morning in the northern Hatteras Island village of Waves.
The raid was at a house at 25239 Laughing Gull Lane and was not occupied.
A related raid later in the day at a residence in Southern Shores turned up another 150 plants and more evidence of a large marijuana growing operation.
Arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana and manufacture of marijuana are Ritchie McGhee, 47, of 154 Holly Trail in Southern Shores, and Tammy French, 38, of the same address. The two are being held in lieu of $75,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office said the man and woman who were arrested and charged in Southern Shores were also responsible for the Waves operation.
Also involved in the investigation were the Nags Head Police Department, the Kill Devil Hills Police Department, the Southern Shores Police Department, and the State Bureau of Investigation.
