UPDATE: Highway 12 has re-opened to traffic on Bodie Island
Highway 12 from the Whalebone Junction Visitor Center south to the intersection of Old Oregon Inlet Road re-opened to traffic at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 15.
Traffic on that section of the highway has been routed to Old Oregon Inlet Road for several months during road construction.
According to the National Park Service, the construction project is 85 percent complete with a final top layer of pavement still to be done between now and Memorial Day.
Beginning on Monday, April 18, weekdays only, Monday through Thursday, short one-lane sections will be closed for construction. There will be intermittent traffic delays in these sections during this phase of the final paving process.
The Park Service advises using caution and obeying speed limits and flag person-directed traffic flow patterns during these times. No road construction will take place on the weekends, Friday through Sunday.
