HATTERAS– William Monroe Stowe Sr., 90, died on Aug. 31, 2010. Mr.Stowewas the son of the late Ulysses and Annie Gaskill Stowe and the husbandof the late Velma Morris Stowe. He was also preceded in deathbythree sisters, a grandson, and four great-grandchildren.
Mr.Stowe was a commercial fisherman, a veteran of World War II, and wasretired from the North Carolina State Ferry Division. He wasoneof the first ferry captains at Hatteras Inlet. He was also aMason and a member of the Eastern Star.
Mr. Stowe is survived by three daughters, Eloise Glonek and husband Al;Natalie Swindell; Belle Hedrick and husband Michael, and one sonWilliam (Bill) Monroe Stowe, Jr. and wife Jennifer. He isalsosurvived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and twogreat-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held in the front yard of his home at57084 Kohler Road, on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 10:00 a.m. by the Rev.Dwight Burrus and the Rev. Cory Oliver. Burial will takeplace inQuidley Cemetery in Buxton. In case of inclement weather,services will be held at Twiford’s Island Chapel in Hatteras.
