Capital Cities Four Wheelers tournament will be Oct. 15-16
The Capital City Four Wheelers 26th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament is on for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16.
The board of directors and members of CCFW decided early on not to cancel the annual tournament, which has been held for the past 25 years.
“We have been constantly monitoring the progress of the Highway 12 recovery efforts and feel that the access to the island via Highway 12 will be available,” the group said in a media release.
The tournament will begin with the meeting at 8 a.m., Saturday morning, Oct. 15, at the Fessenden Center in Buxton.
Capital City Four Wheelers has been providing donations to worthy causes on Hatteras Island for more than 25 years, and the group says that this year will be no different.
CCFW has already donated $1,000 to the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association’s Outer Banks Community Foundation (OBCF) Recovery Fund. The fishing group plans to continue with its donations to organizations such as the Cape Hatteras United Methodist Men, Hatteras Island Meals, and others, as it have done each year in the past.
“We understand the devastation that Hurricane Irene has placed on Hatteras Island, especially the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, and Avon,” CCFW said. “Many businesses will not be able to recover by tournament time. We hope that our tournament will provide some much needed economic recovery and stimulus to the people and businesses of Hatteras Island.”
