Despite a likelihood of freezing temperatures in the next two days, there is currently no snow on the horizon for Hatteras or Ocracoke islands, per a Tuesday update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
“While a few snowflakes may mix in with the rain later this evening over our inland [North Carolina] areas, we do not expect ANY impacts from this in our area,” said Erik Heden of the NWS office in an emailed statement. “In addition, for those that see just rain tonight, temperatures are not expected to fall below freezing until well after midnight. This will allow our roads and bridges to dry out, thus we are not expecting concerns with black ice.”
Despite a brief warm-up on Tuesday, temperatures are forecast to dip down below freezing starting on early Wednesday morning. On Thursday, the Outer Banks could see lows in the 23-27 degree range, with colder temperatures inland.
