BUXTON– Ormond White Fuller, 90, passed away at home surrounded by her threedaughters and family on Oct. 8, 2013. She is survived bydaughters, Rauna Fuller, Marla Whitehead and husband, Corky, MaryOrmond Morgan and husband, Tim, all of Buxton. She is alsosurvived by her sister, Carol White Dillon of Buxton. She adoredher grandchildren, Courtney Whitehead, III, Maude Whitehead Kaiser,Shanley Morgan, and Bryce Morgan. She was especially proud of hergrandchild and namesake, Kala Ormond Whitehead. She loved andenjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, andRuby Whitehead and Hannah and Reid Kaiser.
Ormond was born onDec. 20, 1922 to Estus P. White and Maude Miller White in Columbia,N.C. She was a 1940 graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh andtaught in public schools in Raleigh, Wilmington, and finally in herhometown of Buxton. With her husband, George R. Fuller Jr.,she owned and operated the first motel on Buxton beach known as CapeHatteras Court and opened Ormond’s Clothing Store in 1948, which sheowned and operated until her retirement in 1998. Ormond loved tofish and was a founding and lifetime member of the Cape HatterasAnglers Club, where she served as president, secretary, and on theboard of directors. She also fished for many years with therecord winning Hatteras Gulls Fishing Team.
Ormond was an activemember of the Order of Eastern Star for 60 years and was a foundingcharter member of the former Cape Hatteras Chapter 303, where sheserved as Worthy Matron numerous times. She was a lifetime memberat the time of her death of the Coinjock Chapter 218.
She had agreat respect for Hatteras Island and the people who live on theisland. She had a passion for the study of the history of theisland and spent a great amount of time collecting genealogicalinformation on many of the local island families. Her research iswell known and respected and has served as the basis for severalpublications. She was involved in community efforts and served onthe board of directors to establish the Fessenden Center in Buxton.
Sheis loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She leaves a wonderful example and legacy for each of her children,grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to live up to and has earned therespect of all who are privileged to have known and loved her.
Funeralservices will be conducted by Twiford Funeral Home and held on Friday,Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Buxton United Methodist Church with Rev. KenDavenport officiating. Burial will follow at Miller FamilyCemetery in Buxton. Viewing will be at the church on Thursdayfrom 5 until 7 p.m. The family will receive friends and relativesfrom 7 until 7 p.m. at 50114 Highway 12 in Buxton following the viewing.
