EDENTON– Barbara T. Lassiter died peacefully Monday Aug. 19, 2013 in Edenton.She was born Oct. 3, 1917 and was a graduate of NorthwesternUniversity. She was married to John Hanes Lassiter from November of1950 until his death in December of 1973. She is survived by her son,Wesley Lassiter of Frisco, and her grandsons, Christopher Lassiter ofKill Devil Hills and Austin Lassiter of Frisco.
Barbara willbe remembered for her deep love of Hatteras Island and her givingnature to islanders in need back in the 1960s and ‘70s. A coupleprominent businesses today on Hatteras Island were given a start withfunding from Hanes and Barbara. Barbara loved to hunt and fish andcould out-shoot most any of her counterparts. She loved bluegrass musicand was the best joke teller anyone could ever have known. She was anincredible mother to her sons, David and Wes.
Memorialservices will be announced at a later date when her ashes will bespread on Pamlico Sound and she will be surrounded by family andfriends and we will all tell stories about her as she would liked us tocelebrate her life. It was a life to celebrate. She will be missed.
