AVON– Basil Hanson Hooper Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather,passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Born in Avonin 1931 to Ulysses and Arkansas Scarborough Hooper, he was the youngestson of eight children. He was a dedicated serviceman, retiring from theU.S. Coast Guard after 26 years of service. He was also employed by theN.C. Department of Transportation for 15 years. He will be rememberedfor his kindness, helpfulness, and joy of life. His comical spirit andhumor will be missed by all. He was well respected by everyone for hisdedication to work and, most of all, his devotion to family.
Leftto cherish many memories are his wife, Yvonne Gray Hooper, and histhree children, Sharon (Marc) Hooper Williams of Evergreen, Ala., Basil(Linda) Hooper Jr. of Avon, and Ken (Diane) Hooper of Cary, N.C. He wasthe loving “Pop” to six grandchildren, Amanda Hooper, Joel and JoshWilliams, and Emily, Matthew, and Sarah Hooper. One sister, RoxieHooper Alcorn of Orlando, Fla., joins numerous other family members andfriends to remember his life. He was proud to be a “Kinnakeeter.”
Heattended Avon Worship Center where a visitation will be held on Friday,March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held onSaturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in GrayFamily Cemetery in Buxton.
