Peele Dixon
FRISCO — Elise Peele Dixon, 89,formerly of Frisco,passed away at Dominion Village of Chesapeake on Saturday, July 23,2011. A native of Hatteras, she was the daughter of the late Leo Peeleand the late Beatrice Austin Peele. She is also preceded in death byher husband, Bertie Dixon, Jr. and was the last of nine children,including Maurice Lambert Peele, Wallace Lee Peele, Nacy Austin Peele,Beatrice Barnett, Lovey Alice Leatherwood, Juanita Jennette, andWilliam Maxton Peele.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by her son, Bertie Dixon III of Frisco, and hergrandsons, Bert Dixon, IV and wife Jessica of Chesapeake and AndrewDixon and wife Heather of Portsmouth, Va. Also left to cherish hermemory are her great grandchildren, Chase, Carolyn, Alex, Hunter, andJackson.
Up until her last few years, she had unbounded energy and always had akind word for everyone. She worked at various jobs for 70 years as acigar tobacco leaf roller in Charleston, skinned hot dogs inSmithfield, worked at Colonial Stores, Giant Open Air Market, variousmotels, at grocery stores, and restaurants on Hatteras Island. She alsoworked for several years as assistant manager at Teach’s Lair Marina.
Ms. Dixon’s belief was “give me flowers while I live,” so the familyhas designated that, in lieu of funeral flowers, donations be made, inher memory to, Order of the Eastern Star, Hatteras Island Chapter #303,P. O. Box 1103, Buxton, NC 27920 or the Hatteras Island Food Pantry,P.O. Box 1591, Buxton, NC 27920.
The Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at HatterasUnited Methodist Church with Rev. Dwight Burrus officiating. There willbe an opportunity for viewing and signing the register just prior tothe service, from 1 until 2 p.m. Burial will be in Quidley Cemetery inBuxton.
