BUXTON – Catherine Ann Henry Burrus, 70, died on Jan. 19, 2011, inNorfolk Sentara General Hospital.
Cathy was born in Victoria, Tex., on Sept. 13, 1940, the daughter ofthe late James Travis Henry and Mildred Presley Henry. She moved toHatteras Island almost a half century ago after she married ConradBurrus Sr., the love of her life who died in 1993.
Cathy loved her family, her many friends, fishing, and her adoptedisland home. She was active in her church, Buxton United MethodistChurch, and in the Cape Hatteras Chapter No. 303 of the Order of theEastern Star. She was a faithful member of the Eastern Starwhoheld many offices, including service as Worth Matron twotimes.
She was an active community volunteer with such groups as the HatterasIsland Rescue Squad and was employed for 14 years by Dare CountyEmergency Medical Services. She retired in 1998 as an EMTparamedic.
She was also predeceased by a son, Conrad Burrus Jr., and a daughter,Cathy Lynn Burrus Smith.
Cathy is survived by her son, Travis Burrus, and grandsons, Thomas andConrad Burrus, all of Buxton; a brother, Paul Henry of Buxton, and asister, Sarah Christine Henry of Chula Vista, Calif.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. atBuxton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cory Oliver and the Rev.Dwight Burrus officiating. Burial will be in the Quidley Cemetery inBuxton. The family will receive friends and relatives at thechurch after the service.
