MANTEO – Arvin Alexander Midgett, 79, of Manteo, NC passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at Tyrrell House in Columbia, NC.
A native of Dare County, he was preceded in death by his mother,Margaret “Blackie” Meekins Midgett; his father, Leonard Wilson Midgett;and a brother, Ephraim “Bud” Midgett.
Arvin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynda Fayssoux Midgett;daughter, Allison Arlene Snapp of Manteo; granddaughters, Nicole SnappGranger of Manteo, Katlin Fayssoux Snapp of Washington, NC, andCaroline Jane Snapp of Manteo; great-granddaughter, Kinslee Grace Davisof Washington, NC; sister, Nancy Pearl Midgett Walker; and brother,Charles Francoise Midgett both of Manteo.
As a young man, he attended North Carolina State University and thenjoined the United States Navy. When he returned to Manteo, Arvin workedas a printer under the guidance of Victor and Francis Meekins. He was alifelong member of Roanoke Island Baptist Church, former member of theManteo Lions Club, and one of the original members of the Dare CountyWaterways Commission and the Dare County Game and Wildlife Commission.
Arvin was a true Outer Banker and made his living as a charter boatcaptain on the “Miss Boo.” He worked many years at the Off IslandHunting Club taking duck hunting charters, and was known for hisoriginal design of the Arvin “Porky” Midgett Skiff; along with hisunique sense of humor and his love for his girls; Lynda, Allison,Nikki, Kate, Caroline, and Kinslee.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 atMount Olivet United Methodist Church, located on Ananias Dare Street inManteo, NC. Burial will take place in Manteo Cemetery. The family willreceive friends for a visitation Monday night from 5:00 until 7:00 pmat Twiford Colony Chapel.
