GlendaAustin Van Hook, 79, a native of Hatteras, died on Sunday, Jan. 22,2017. Glenda was a graduate of the North Carolina School for the Deaf,Morganton, N.C. and worked as a seamstress in Norfolk, Va., for manyyears.
Glenda is survived by a very close niece, Donna O’Neal, whom shereferred to as “her baby.” Donna along with her husband, Jimmy ofMiddlesex, N.C., cared for and looked after her for many years. She isalso survived by a host of additional nieces, nephews, family andfriends.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Moody Chappel Austin andRuth Roberts Austin; sister, Elsie Carol Webster; brother, UlyssesCrowder Austin; and niece, Glenda Ruth Stafford.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at Heritage ofFaith Family Church with the Rev. Dwight Burrus officiating. A privatefamily burial will take place at the Austin family cemetery. The familywill receive friends and relatives at the church on Thursday eveningfrom 6 until 8 p.m.
